The Best Foods for Clear Skin

By Danny Swanger

Clear skin can not only make a person look better and and feel better about oneself, it is also a terrific indication of general health. There are some foods for clear skin which really can help to make a big difference and can easily be included into the daily diet.

Assorted produce - bell peppers, apples, berries, blueberries, strawberries, broccoli, banana and grapesDark Chocolate – This might not be the obvious choice for the first on the list but at least it will encourage anyone who would love to improve their skin but isn't willing to give up those little indulgences altogether. Of course, this must only be eaten in moderation but is definitely the healthiest chocolate available.

Vegetables – Eating a good variety of vegetables daily is a very effective way of improving the clarity of the skin, as well as, overall health. Green vegetables are particularly helpful so be sure to eat plenty of broccoli, cauliflower, beets, spinach, onions, lettuce, kale, pepper, cucumber and celery.

Greek Yogurt – Although it is not advisable to eat too many dairy products in the pursuit of clear skin, Greek yogurt is one tasty exception. It is not only a great source of calcium and protein but also loaded with probiotics which are good for the skin as well as many other functions in the body.

Berries – Berries are delicious and packed with antioxidants which have been shown to help decrease some mild or even moderate acne. What a great idea to cut back on sugary, processed deserts (which are extremely bad for the skin) and replace them with scrumptious blackberries, cherries or blueberries covered with a delicious helping of Greek yogurt.

fresh oysters isolated on white backgroundOysters – These shellfish are renowned for their aphrodisiac properties but are also packed with zinc which is great for the skin. It is important to source sustainable farmed oysters but they can be a good addition to the diet in more ways than one!

Pumpkin seeds – These delicious seeds are another great source of zinc for anyone who isn't a great fan of seafood. They can be eaten as a snack or make a delightful, crunchy topping for salads and desserts.

Green Tea – This is a superb source of polyphenols which help to increase the blood flow and oxygen around the body and to the skin. This is one of the best foods for clear skin around.

Home-cooked food which is created from carefully chosen, fresh produce might sound complicated and time consuming but is a much better option than relying upon processed, convenience foods. Food cooked from scratch using fresh ingredients is a very safe option that does not contain additives and preservatives, and it is often cheaper than many processed foods. Many of the chemicals added to processed food end up playing havoc with your skin, resulting in blotchiness and acne.

Use these tips and you should see an improvement in a relatively short space of time. The pursuit of clear and healthy skin is actually much easier than many people think.
