Rules to Follow For a Clear Skin Diet

By Danny Swanger

There is nothing revolutionary about the best diet for a clear skin. It really does boil down to eating simple, healthy foods which are also great for general health and weight loss. Although this might sound easy, some people can find it difficult to stick to the rules and some things do work better for some people whereas other things may be more beneficial for others. That's why it is important for everyone to experiment a little to find their best solution for a clear skin diet.

fresh berries in a bowl including raspberries blackberries and blueberriesDrink plenty of water. There isn't a diet on earth which doesn't advocate the benefits of drinking plenty of water every day with one very good reason – it really works! The body is, after all 60% water so it's hardly surprising that it needs to be kept well topped up and hydrated in order to function efficiently. People often confuse the feelings of hunger with the feelings of thirst so drinking plenty of water can not only help to keep the skin clear and hydrated, it can also help with weight loss. When it comes to healthy, clear skin this really is the basic principle to remember.

Reducing sugar intake is another basic principle which will make a big difference to the clarity of the skin. Sugar is in virtually everything so can be difficult to avoid altogether, but cutting back on candy aisle sweets and refined carbohydrates is a great way to start. There is also a lot of sugar present in soda and fizzy drinks so why not replace them with water?

Choca-holics take heart – dark chocolate is the perfect treat, the darker the better and is actually quite good for the skin if eaten in small amounts.

Reducing alcohol intake is another great way of helping to boost any clear skin diet. Alcohol is full of sugar and can cause many other problems including heart disease. Cutting it out not only benefits the skin, it benefits every other organ in the body, too.

Many people find that their skin becomes clearer if they cut down on the amount of dairy products in their daily diet. Dairy does contain many useful nutrients like calcium so there's no need to cut it out altogether, but eating more vegetables and less dairy can certainly help towards clearer skin. This is particularly true of green leafy vegetables like broccoli, lettuce, kale, beets, celery, peppers, peas, cucumber, cauliflower and spinach. The greater variety of vegetables included in the diet, the more the skin will benefit.

Another great addition to the clear skin diet is plenty of fresh berries. Not only are these delicious but they are also high in antioxidants which are a veritable super food when it comes to clearer skin. This includes berries like blackberries, blueberries, goji berries and cherries.

Following these few simple rules will not only help to achieve clearer skin but there are also many other health benefits to enjoy as well.
